No matter which route you take from Melbourne you will eventually come to Mansfield – the closest major town to Altitude221. Pass through Mansfield and follow the signs to Mt Buller.

In just over 2 hours from Melbourne International Airport you can be out of the city and high in the mountains! There are a few different routes you can take. 

  • Via Plenty Road,  Whittlesea and Yea
  • Via the Hume Highway to Tallarook and Yea
  • Via the Maroondah Highway to Yarra Glen and Yea
  • To get here via the most direct route from Melbourne or the airport using Google Maps and GPS, it is best to set your destination to Yea, then once you are in Yea set it for Mansfield, then Boorolite.

Mansfield is also very easy to get to from interstate N.S.W. ,  just 1 hour from the Hume Highway at Benalla

Travelling from the north, follow the Hume Highway south and take the Mansfield exit onto the Midland Highway (B300).

Melbourne-Yarra Valley-Healesville-Alexandra-Mansfield- Altitude 221
 Approximately 3 hours

From Melbourne, leave the traffic lights behind and head for the hills. Enjoy a relaxed motoring experience along rolling country roads, through the vineyards and towns of the Yarra Valley and Healesville region. Visit cellar doors and sample award-winning wines and new varietals. When you reach Altitude 221, you could take a leisurely stroll around the property listening to the sounds of the wildlife  or enjoy a refreshing swim before dinner.

Take the ‘Cool Climate Wine’ loop and enjoy the warm hospitality of the High Country. Drive through the winding  Prosecco Road in the King Valley, influenced by Italian roots but well grounded in its Australian bush setting.  Sample wines and wares from plantings large and small. On your return to Altitude 221 settle in for an evening of dining and travel tales amongst friends.

Immerse yourself in the life and legend of Australia’s most infamous bushranger, Ned Kelly. Visit the museums, monuments, courthouses, lock-ups, hideouts and cemeteries still ringing with the sound of horses’ hoofs and gunshots of Kelly’s bushranging days. Many towns offer maps and guided tours of significant sites. There will be plenty to talk about when you return to Altitude221 for dinner.

CAUTION:  Kangaroos, wallabies, deer, wombats and other animals can be on and around the roads. Drive with care, especially during dusk. Take a break and spot a Koala in the ghost gums.
